For over a decade, Samsung has relied on Wacom technology to make its S Pens. However, the company is apparently working on a new stylus technology to improve the S Pen experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung is reportedly working with HiDeep to develop a new stylus technology
<\/strong>Samsung is reportedly working with Korean company HiDeep to develop a new stylus that doesn\u2019t need a separate digitizer and battery. Once the development is complete, the company could market the new technology to Chinese phone makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung\u2019s S Pen currently uses Wacom\u2019s EMR technology, which is lauded by industry insiders for its high performance. However, this technology requires a digitizer, which adds to the thickness of the device. In return, the S Pen doesn\u2019t need a battery for its core functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In comparison, Apple\u2019s stylus for the iPad doesn\u2019t need a digitizer but does need a battery. There is a thin rectangular component in the device\u2019s panel that detects when the stylus touches the screen. As a result, Apple and Samsung\u2019s styluses are not compatible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HiDeep wants to develop a solution that meets the needs of all manufacturers. In August 2024, the company said it was working with a global phone brand. Last month, it said that the brand would use the new stylus technology for future products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The brand in question is none other than Samsung, which seems to be looking to add S Pen support to slim phones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Samsung Display has been supplying foldable OLED screens for many Chinese phones, the company is interested in OLED screens and the new stylus technology that doesn\u2019t require a digitizer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
