Samsung is building a state-of-the-art chip factory in Taylor, Texas, USA. The company has spent billions of dollars on the factory and recently received $4.74 billion in incentives from the US government. Samsung wants to start mass production of chips at the factory by 2026 to compete with TSMC.

Samsung may produce 2nm chips in Texas, USA

A new report claims that Samsung Foundry will start producing state-of-the-art chips at its Taylor factory in 2026. The company may want to produce 2nm and 3nm chips at the factory. The company will bring all the necessary equipment in early 2026 and start production before the end of that year.

For comparison, TSMC – Samsung’s biggest rival – has already started producing 4nm chips at its Arizona factory. By the end of this year, TSMC will start producing 2nm and 3nm chips.

While Samsung Foundry plans to use Gate All Around (GAA) technology for both 2nm and 3nm chips, TSMC will use EUV technology for the 3nm process and GAA for the 2nm process.

Despite starting later than TSMC, Samsung will differentiate itself with a “turnkey” service optimized for neural processors. More specifically, the company will provide all the necessary services under one roof, reducing the required time from development to manufacturing by 20%.

A few years ago, Samsung unveiled its Vision 2030 plan with the desire to become the world’s leading semiconductor chip company by 2030. However, the company has faced many setbacks, partly due to its technology and partly due to strategies and political issues.

Analysts say that Samsung Foundry’s chances of survival will increase if the division is spun off from Samsung Electronics. However, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jay-yong announced a few months ago that the company would not do so.
