Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce its first AR glasses prototype at the Galaxy S25 launch event, which is expected to take place in late January 2025. Yonhap News reported that the company is accelerating its development in the field of augmented reality (AR) and extended reality (XR).

Samsung’s upcoming AR glasses prototype will be introduced in the form of videos or images, similar to how the company announced the Galaxy Ring at the previous Galaxy S23 event. The product is expected to be officially released in the third quarter of 2025.

Samsung’s AR glasses are said to have a design similar to regular sunglasses, weighing only about 50g. The device will integrate advanced features such as AI-based payment, gesture recognition, and facial recognition, providing a high-tech yet easy-to-use experience.

Samsung expects this AR glasses line to compete strongly in the smart glasses segment with a more reasonable price, especially when compared to Apple’s Vision Pro, a product with a high price and limited supply.

Along with the introduction of AR glasses, Samsung also plans to announce the XR platform optimized for integration into devices. This is the result of a collaboration between Samsung, Google and Qualcomm since early 2023. At the Unpacked event in July, Samsung confirmed that this platform will be ready to launch by the end of this year.

The XR platform not only supports AR glasses but also marks a new step in Samsung’s strategy to expand its technology products into the fields of augmented reality and virtual reality.

The launch of AR glasses shows Samsung’s ambition to shape the augmented reality technology market. After its success in the smartphone segment, the company is expanding its influence into smart wearable products, promising to bring a seamless connection experience between the real and digital worlds.
