Samsung has just released a new update to its SmartThings app, making smart home management more convenient than ever. With this update, users can now use the remote control widget right on the home screen of their Android device, instead of having to open the app to change channels or adjust the volume.

The new control widget in SmartThings is rolling out to Samsung TVs and displays from 2022 onwards. This widget allows quick access to important controls such as power on/off, volume adjustment, and input selection. This is especially useful for those who want to operate quickly without having to spend time searching in the app.

However, this control widget does not support devices manufactured before 2022. Samsung has not explained the reason, but it may be a hardware compatibility issue. For older devices, users still need to open the SmartThings app to use the remote control.

How to add SmartThings widgets to your home screen

If you have already set up the SmartThings app with your Samsung TV or display, adding it to your home screen is easy. Just press and hold an empty space on your home screen, select Widgets, find SmartThings Remote, drag the widget to your home screen, and select the Samsung device you want to control. Note that this can only be done after installing the latest version of Smartthings from the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store.

Other improvements in the update

In addition to the TV control widget, the new SmartThings update also brings many valuable improvements such as:

  1. Smart device automation: Automation processes are now more optimized, making connecting and controlling devices in the Samsung ecosystem faster and more seamless.
  2. Speeded-up device pairing: Users can connect new devices to the system faster than ever.
  3. Improved Energy Monitoring: With supported devices, you can track and manage energy consumption more effectively, helping to save costs and protect the environment

This update not only enhances the user experience but also turns SmartThings into a more powerful control center for the entire Samsung ecosystem. In particular, with the direct TV control utility, SmartThings continues to affirm its important role in bringing convenience and intelligence to the modern home.
