Early last year, Samsung announced that it was developing an XR experience with Google and Qualcomm. A few days ago, Samsung unveiled its first XR device, internally known as “Project Moohan.” Before Samsung launches its AR glasses, Meta is planning a major upgrade to its Ray-Ban Smart Glasses.

Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Will Get a Display Upgrade to Compete with Samsung’s AR Glasses
Meta’s current Ray-Ban Smart Glasses don’t have a display. Everything you do on the glasses has to be done via voice commands and gestures. However, according to a report from the Financial Times, Meta is planning to equip its next-generation Ray-Ban Smart Glasses with a display.

The product could launch as early as next year, possibly in the second half of 2025. The display is said to be used for notifications and feedback from Meta AI.

A few months ago, Meta showed off a prototype of its smart glasses with a display. Internally, it’s called “Project Orion.” The device has a projector screen that can project content into the user’s field of view. However, the technology is said to be too expensive to commercialize at the moment.

The new report suggests that Meta may equip the next generation of Ray-Ban Smart Glasses with a less advanced version of the display technology for Project Orion.

The news comes shortly after Google and Samsung unveiled Android XR and the first devices running the operating system. Samsung could launch its first XR device in the second half of 2025 after it launches its AR smart glasses.

At the moment, Apple, Meta, and Samsung have all entered the XR market. Let’s see how they will improve the XR experience in the future and which company will lead the market.
