Did you know that Samsung has a podcast service that is exclusive to Galaxy users? That’s coming to an end soon, as the company is planning to shut it down.
Samsung is now notifying publishers that it will be shutting down its Podcasts service on December 1, 2024.
Samsung also clarified that any personal information collected for the purpose of providing the podcast service will be “immediately destroyed.” Additionally, user content, including podcasts downloaded by listeners, will be deleted immediately on December 1.
What is Samsung Podcasts?
You may be wondering why you’ve never heard of Samsung Podcasts. Don’t worry! Most people haven’t.
Samsung Podcasts launched in 2021 through Samsung Free, which later became Samsung News in select markets. However, Samsung’s podcast platform isn’t available in every region where News and Free are available.
In other words, Samsung Podcasts was only available on Galaxy devices in select markets and exclusively through its Free and News content aggregation platforms. However, that will all end on December 1.
Limited reach may be why Samsung decided to discontinue Podcasts. It seems like the platform has too many barriers to reaching a large enough audience.
As for Samsung News and Samsung Free, the company said that the two content aggregation platforms will continue to operate as usual.
